Hearing loss can occur to any age group and for many different reasons. I noticed that generally, people prefer to bypass any test, offering many excuses not to do anything about the issue.

I was, as they say, ‘hard of hearing’. I constantly had to ask my wife to repeat herself. Hearing impairment forces a life of isolation on you like being a prisoner in solitary confinement from your everyday world. Suddenly, I could not take part in family conversation or friends talking. I lost my independence and my self-respect as I often had to turn to someone to share things with me afterwards, or just to forget whatever it was that I had missed. I found myself having to pretend to be part of the world that was once mine to enjoy.

For a number of years I had though I never had a hearing problem! I could always hear things some other people could not hear. When I couldn’t hear it was because I thought people spoke in low tones, or turned away from me when speaking to me. Oh how I was fooled.
I could always get by, guessing and assuming 95% of the time. As the years went by, my answers were getting further from correct. The other major factor why I never pursued a hearing test was due to self pride. One may ask why I had never had a hearing test for so many years?
My family was always suggesting to me to have a hearing test, but being who I am, stubborn, I ignored these requests until mid year 2009. My daughter, who loves me dearly, really gave me a dressing down for the embarrassment I was causing the family through my answers which I now understand, were quite stupid and incorrect. To keep the peace, I agreed to have a hearing test, which was with Connect Hearing in Mt. Barker.
The test revealed a huge loss in my hearing, which I accepted and agreed to go ahead with help in the form of hearing aids. Having been advised so well of the availability of hi-tech hearing aids and the size range etc today, I agreed to purchase the help I needed to give me the hearing benefit I so much needed.
Once these aids were programmed to suit my hearing loss, I can only explain very simply my reaction to hearing things that I have missed for so many years, to the point of myself becoming very emotional when I put the aids in and stood outside hearing the birds and sounds at evening time on the farm. On asking my wife, if the things I was now hearing were real, I could understand somewhat the frustration my family were experiencing prior to this transition.
I cannot express my gratitude enough for the way you professionally helped me restore a most valuable sense of my body. I have also been told more than once, from family and friends, that it has altered my expression and character. No longer am I under strain, to hear conversations in person or on the phone. The change in my life is almost indescribable, to the point that I now wish I had made this transition years ago.
Finally I would just like to add, that the manner in dealing with me as a client, I can only describe as totally professional and personal, putting me at ease, in making this decision to purchase hearing aids that I am totally satisfied with.
